northeast philly

Northeast Philadelphia is the most rapidly changing section of Philadelphia. According to Pew Research and Census data Northeast Philadelphia went from 92 percent white in 1990 to 58.3 percent white in 2010. However, Northeast grew in population by 5.4 percent. It now has a larger contingents of blacks, Hispanics and Asians.

Additionally, poverty has increased 62% in sections of NE Philly since 2000. The Northeast, once known to be home to a large working class Irish American population, is now one of the most ethnically and racially diverse sections of Philly.

These photographs are an ongoing photographic exploration of Northeast Philly, the section of the city I grew up in.
